Wrinkles, fine lines, and the general loss of skin elasticity are all natural parts of the aging process. But as we journey through life, these changes can impact our self-confidence. WHAT IS BOTOX?

Botox is a minimally invasive procedure that can minimize the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines on the face. It contains a neurotoxin called botulinum toxin type A, which is derived from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. This has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for cosmetic use since 2002.

As a cosmetic treatment, Botox can temporarily block the movement of overactive muscles that lead to the formation of wrinkles and fine lines. It is also an effective solution to various medical issues, ranging from muscle spasms like cervical dystonia (neck spasms) and eye twitching to excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) and migraines.

BOTOX AND HOW IT WORKS

Botox treatments work by blocking the nerve signals that cause certain facial muscles to contract. When you inject small doses into certain areas of the face, it can temporarily relax these muscles and reduce the intensity of its movement, thus addressing the root cause of your wrinkles.

Botox not only minimizes the appearance of severe wrinkles– it also helps delay further development of deeper lines, providing you with both immediate results and preventive benefits.

WHO IS THE IDEAL CANDIDATE FOR BOTOX?

Botox is one of many aesthetic treatments that we offer here at House of Beauty Med Spa. Here’s a quick checklist that can help you determine if you’re an ideal candidate for this procedure and if Botox is the best solution for your needs:

☑️ You have moderate to severe facial wrinkles

As a muscle relaxer, Botox is most effective in reducing the appearance of dynamic facial wrinkles like frown lines, crow’s feet, or forehead wrinkles.

☑️ You have specific areas of concern

The way we administer Botox is designed to target specific areas of concern on the face, particularly those that experience excessive muscle movement. This includes the areas around the eyes, forehead, mouth, and neck.

☑️ You are in good overall health

Although Botox has been tested and proven safe for medical and cosmetic use for more than two decades, we highly recommend that you first check in with your primary healthcare provider if you have any existing health conditions or are undergoing any medications.

    ☑️ You have realistic expectations

Botox can yield remarkable results, but it’s essential to approach the treatment with realistic expectations. This procedure can greatly reduce, but not completely eliminate, lines and wrinkles. It is also best for those who want subtle, natural looking results that enhance their appearance, rather than drastically changing it.

A QUICK GUIDE TO DYNAMIC FACIAL WRINKLES

Also called expression lines, these are wrinkles that form as a result of repeated muscle movements and facial expressions. As we age, they become more noticeable due to the loss of skin elasticity and collagen production. Here are some of the most common dynamic wrinkles that we treat with Botox:

  • Forehead wrinkles – horizontal lines that form across the forehead.
  • Glabellar lines – vertical wrinkles between the eyebrows, also referred to as “11 lines.”
  • Crow’s feet – fine lines and wrinkles that radiate from the outer corners of the eyes.
  • Bunny lines – diagonal wrinkles that appear on the sides of the nose when you smile or scrunch your face.
  • Neck bands – also known as “platysma bands,” these are the two strips of muscle that run down both sides of your neck, the prominence of which can highlight the appearance of saggy skin, double chin, and neck creases.

Botox is safe. It is not, however, recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women. Studies on the effects of Botox for these individuals are still very limited. If you fall under this category, please consult with your primary healthcare provider and explore alternative options before considering this treatment.

Additionally, if you have sensitive skin or any active skin infections and allergies, you must communicate these concerns or conditions to the House of Beauty Med Spa team during the consultation. Although allergic reactions or skin irritation are rare, our team is committed to taking the necessary precautions in order to ensure your safety and comfort.

WHAT KINDS OF TREATMENTS CAN YOU RECEIVE?

House of Beauty Med Spa offers a wide range of specific Botox treatments that we can mix and match to address your concerns. These include:

  • Lip Flip, a Botox treatment can enhance your smile by diminishing fine lines around the lips, making them look fuller and more defined.
  • Brow Lift, where we use Botox to combat tired-looking eyes or uplift drooping eyebrows, giving you a more youthful and elevated look.
  • Gummy Smile, a procedure that involves injecting small amounts of Botox between your upper lip and nose. This temporarily relaxes the overactive muscles that cause your upper lip to reveal gum tissue when smiling.
  • Jelly Roll, which helps smoothen the fine lines and wrinkles below the eyes, resulting in a more even and “jelly-like” skin surface.
  • Chin Dimpling, a treatment that will help you get rid of the “orange peel” look on your chin. By relaxing the underlying muscles that cause the dimpling, the skin on your chin can look smoother and more supple.
  • Nasal Flaring, where we inject Botox in strategic areas around the nose to temporarily block muscle movement that causes excessive nostril flaring.
  • Hyperhidrosis for Underarms or Hands, which are Botox treatments for excessive sweating in areas like the palms, soles of the feet, and under arms.

WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT DURING THE PROCEDURE?

If you’re planning to get a Botox treatment at the House of Beauty Med Spa, here is a step-by-step guide to the procedure

STEP 1: CONSULTATION

Your treatment begins with an in-depth consultation with our licensed medical experts about your areas of concern and aesthetic goals. This is a critical step in deciding the right Botox treatments for you, as well as in developing your overall personal aesthetic plan. Your medical history and current conditions will also be evaluated to ensure your treatments are safe and 100% effective.

STEP 2: PREPARATION

On the day of the procedure, we recommend that you avoid taking any blood-thinning medications or supplements like:

  • Aspirin and aspirin-containing medications
  • Ibuprofen, Advil, Alleve, and other anti-inflammatory medications
  • Herbal supplements and vitamins that can thin the blood, such as fish oil (or any omega-3 supplements), Echinacea, garlic supplements, flax seed, ginseng, etc.

Before delivering the Botox injections, the target areas will be thoroughly cleaned and sterilized, ensuring it is free from any dirt, oil, or makeup. Your practitioner may also apply a topical anesthetic to the area to minimize any pain or discomfort during the injection process.

STEP 3: INJECTION

Your practitioner will use a fine needle to administer small amounts of Botox into specific facial muscles that were identified during your consultation. The number of injections required will depend on the size and location of the target areas.

Botox injections generally cause little to no pain. However, some individuals may experience a slight pinching sensation or mild discomfort during the procedure, which can be mitigated by the topical anesthetic.

This part of the procedure will take only around 15 minutes to complete, making it one of the fastest and most convenient anti-aging treatment options you can have.

STEP 4: POST-TREATMENT CARE AND RESULTS

After your session, your practitioner will discuss with you the specific aftercare instructions you need to follow, as well as what you can expect in terms of recovery time and potential side effects.

It will also take 3-7 days before the Botox takes effect, and almost two weeks for full results to show. The longevity of the treatment’s results can vary from person to person, but on average it can last around 3-4 months. After this period, or if the same concerns re-occur, you can schedule follow-up treatments to maintain your ideal appearance.

WHAT IS RECOVERY PERIOD LIKE?

Recovery time after a Botox treatment is minimal. And depending on the extent of the procedure, some can even resume their normal activities almost immediately. Temporary redness, swelling, or bruising at the injection site is to be expected, however, which is why we recommend scheduling your Botox treatment at least two weeks before any major event or trip.

Like any cosmetic procedure, it’s important to be mindful of the injected areas for a couple of days after the treatment session in order to minimize potential side effects and ensure the best results. You can do this by:

  • Avoiding excessive sun exposure for at least 24 hours. You can also wear sunscreen and protective clothing to minimize the risk of sun damage if you need to go outside.
  • Refraining from strenuous exercise for at least 24 hours, since this can increase blood flow to the treated area and increase the amount of bruising and swelling.
  • Following the specific aftercare instructions provided by your practitioner. Our Botox treatments are tailored to each patient’s unique facial features and areas of concern, and some cases may require additional post-treatment care aside from the general guidelines mentioned above. It’s crucial to follow both general and specific instructions for optimal results.
  • Attending follow-up appointments. Depending on the extent of the Botox procedure or your aesthetic treatment plan, your practitioner may suggest follow-up appointments to evaluate the results and make the necessary adjustments. It is also critical that you immediately contact your practitioner or the staff at House of Beauty Med Spa should you experience any concerning or persistent side effects.

BOTOX VS. OTHER AESTHETIC TREATMENTS

Not sure if Botox is the right treatment for you? Here’s a brief guide on how Botox compares to the other injectables we offer in the House of Beauty Med Spa:

BOTOX VS. DERMAL FILLERS

While both Botox and dermal fillers are used as anti-aging treatments, they differ in function and what wrinkle-causing concerns they address. As a nerve signal-blocker, Botox is most effective against dynamic wrinkles, which are caused by muscle movement. Dermal fillers, on the other hand, are made with hyaluronic acid. This is more effective in restoring lost volume due to aging and other factors, which lead to static wrinkles and hollow areas in the face.

These two treatments also differ greatly in terms of the longevity of their results. Botox results last around 3 to 4 months on average, while dermal fillers can last 6 months to 2 years.

BOTOX VS. KYBELLA

Botox and Kybella treatments are completely distinct injectables in terms of how it works and what kinds of issues it can treat. Botox addresses dynamic wrinkles by relaxing the muscle, while Kybella is specially designed to destroy fat cells that accumulate in the chin and jaw area.

BOTOX VS. PRP/PRF

Both treatments can address signs of aging. However, Botox does this by blocking nerve signals to specific facial muscles, while PRP/PRF uses the regenerative properties of your own platelets to stimulate tissue repair, promote collagen synthesis, and enhance blood flow to those areas of your face. Ultimately, PRP/PRF is better used to improve your overall skin texture, elasticity, and skin quality rather than minimizing dynamic wrinkles.

Moreover, PRP/PRF treatments involve a more complex procedure than Botox, which includes drawing a small amount of your blood, separating the platelet-rich plasma or fibrin using a centrifuge, and injecting this concentrated solution into the target areas. It also involves multiple sessions – spaced 4-6 weeks apart – before optimal results are achieved.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

The total cost of a Botox treatment will depend on the treatment area, the amount of product required, and the expertise and service provided by your practitioner. At House of Beauty Med Spa, Botox starts at $13 per unit, with each treatment type starting at $120 (except for Hyperhidrosis for Underarms and Hands, which start at $650).

We recommend that you schedule a personalized consultation with one of our experts to receive a more accurate calculation of your total Botox treatment costs.
